Marketing Yourself as an Artist

Are you ready to get your artwork "on the market"? Marketing your artwork and focusing your efforts are important elements in moving to a professional level. In this class, an artist and marketing professional will lead discussions on how to create realistic goals, how to get over stage fright and how to organize inexpensive exhibitions that can be financially rewarding. Other points of discussion will be the advantages and disadvantages of website and moving your work into reporductions. Most importantly, this class will help you learn to think and act like a businessperson in the art world. Limited to 15.

Book Making

Open to ages 12+
Learn some basic bookbinding techniques, while creating three different books: an accordian, a pamphlet stitch and a Japanese stab binding. By using beautiful paper, glue and book board, you will learn some basic skills to continue making your own books, portfolios or photo albums.

Ceramic Raku Workshop

Friday Full-day Workshop
We have arranged a special fieldtrip to the Potters Studio for an alternative firing opportunity. This semester we will be doing a Raku firing which is a Japanese method of glazing where the artist, heat, glazes, and clay are part of the creation. Spend the day learning and participating in this old art form. Open to all students. Bring three medium size bisque pieces. Call with any questions. This is sure to be a magical workshop!

Kinetic Sculpture: Making Mobiles Workshop

There is something magical about mobiles. like living creatures, they move and have personaities; they can be humorous, meditative, or garaceful. In this workshop we will explore ways to balance, assemble, and hang mobiles and students will be encouraged to create their own unique designs.

Metal Clay

Open to ages 14+
Instructor: Stephanie Houston
The invention of Precious Metal Clay, better known as PMC, is a new approach to making jewelry. Pure silver or gold is suspended in an organic binder that burns away when the material is fired in a kiln. This is an exciting class where students mold, sculpt and use household tools to create earrings, pendants, and even rings. Students are encouraged to experiment and develop new designs with this new media.

Free Lecture & Demo: Alternative Tools & Surfaces

Ready to try something new? Using acrylic paints, we'll take a look at painting on things other than canvas, and using tools other than brushes. the workshop will cover substrate preparation, making your own painting tools, and creating unique textures/effects.
