Soap Making

Instructor: Marla Bosworth
Want to learn how to make soap from scratch? Curious about the cold process? Then this is the perfect class for you! You will learn safety guidelines and reach a level of comfort so that you can finally make soap by hand at home! Start making soap this fall for the holiday gift-giving season. We will discuss safety precautions, how to formulate your own recipes, saponification, how to recognize "trace", various oils, additives and exfoliants, coloring, molds, curing, and how to recognize mishaps. Students will receive soap recipes and a list of favorite suppliers. We will make several batches of soap as a class. Each student will take home 5 handmade bars. This class is a great gift for a friend...or yourself.

Natural Creams, Lotions and Facial Treatments

Forget spending loads of money on highpriced facial products. You'll love making your own creams, lotions, masks and facial scrubs! In this hands-on class, each student will make two of each: creams, lotions, facial scrubs and face masks from tried and true recipes. In addition to taking home eight full-size products, you'll leave feeling confident about making these luxurious treatments at home.

Advanced Watercolor Techniques

This class is for seasoned artists that need some new ideas and tools. Find new ways to paint and new uses for old familiar techniques. Artists will experiment with unusual tools, materials, and additives to bring new life to their repertoire. Bring your paint, brushes and paper. Bring 30 medium-sized pieces of good quality watercolor paper for testing new materials. Instructor will provide other tools and materials. Limited to 12.

Balancing Figures and Toys

Instructor: Vladimir Barsukov

In this class, students will make balancing figures from paper, wooden shapes, wires, and thin sheets of metal. Balancing figures have been around for centuries as decorative items or folk toys. They are whimsical, educational, interactive, and soothing. Make one to put on your desk at work or at home and enjoy watching it; the physics of the balance and the movement are intriguing and amazing. In this class, students will make balancing figures from paper, wooden shapes, wires, and thin sheets of metal. Some wirework techniques will taught. Students will make at least one figure to take home, and have the knowledge and skills to make balancing figures on their own. Limited to 6.

Kinetic Sculpture: Making Mobiles Workshop

There is something magical about mobiles. like living creatures, they move and have personaities; they can be humorous, meditative, or garaceful. In this workshop we will explore ways to balance, assemble, and hang mobiles and students will be encouraged to create their own unique designs.

Decoupage and Faux Painting

This course will focus on the basic techniques of decoupage and faux painting. In this workshop you will change a home decor piece into something new, customizing it to reflect your own personality. Make lampshades, boxes, trays, or anything your creaive brain can think up! Students should bring their favorite pre-cut images, magazines, greeting cards or photographs.

Beaded Jewelry

Come learn the joys of creating and making your own beaded jewelry! Learn how to use the proper tools and materials. Start and finish pieces such as necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Instructions will cover a variety of techniques that will take you from basic beading to more intricate designs and methods, such as multi-strand pieces and wire wrapping.

Basics of Drawing

Using careful observation and deconstruction of subjects, learn the fundamentals of drawing. Through shading, cross-hatching, and perspective, students will discover how to create the illusion of texture and dimension. Lessons include line drawing, sketching, and gesture drawing. Enjoy the basics of drawing in a relaxed and informal class that easily inspires new or returning artists. Limited to 10.

Jewelry and Metal Intensive

This class will explore the different types of metals used in Metalsmithing. Techniques include shaping, polishing, soldering, piercing, etching and embellishing in copper and brass. Students can make earrings, bracelets, brooches, or boxes. Silver available for a nominal fee.

Beginning Oil Painting

Learn the basic methods and secrets of oil painting through demonstrations, guidance, and class exercises. Students will study light and learn the skilled techniques of the masters. From Memories to Art!

Instructor: Adrienne Vodraska
Take your memories beyond photo albums and scrapbooks. Turn them into works of art! In this course students will learn to transfer their own images to a variety of surfaces including fabric, wood, paintings and tiles. We will then discover a world of surface embellishments including embroidery, collage with paper, collage with small objects, painting, drawing, and using text. The possibilities are endless, ranging from 2D to 3D, decorative to functional!

Enamels Intensive Workshop

With Margaret Langdell. Learn to make enamel jewelry, plaques, bowls, etc. in this hands-on intensive class. Enameling is the process of fusing glass onto metal. Enamels are available in a rainbow of colors, as well as small glass "flower" chips and decal sheets. Suitable for beginners to advanced students. In this class, students learn the principles of metal preparation, enamel application and finishing processes. Returning students can explore new techniques, or continue working on projects of their own design. Limited to 6.
