Spirits of Land and Sea: Sculptures by Skip Treglia
January 25 - February 24, 2010
Artist Reception:
Saturday, January 23, 2010
2 to 4 p.m.
Skip Treglia brings an exhibition of recent found material sculptures to the Brookline Arts Center from January 25 to February 24, 2010. With echoes of modernist rigor and the evocative worn surfaces of Surrealist sculpture, Skip's work structures the chaos of ocean flotsam and driftwood into art.
Treglia was born in Boston: he studied at the New England School of Art and has wond a gold medal from the Copley Society of Boston.
In 2008 and 2002, Treglia's work has been featured in solo shows at the Cape Cod Museum of Art and the Waquoit Bay Estuary Center.
Treglia leaves the artworks open to interpretation. The artist admits that they are somewhat mysterious to him: he supposes that they come out of the unconscious.
"There IS an underlying theme to this work, which is our connectedness to nature," says Skip. "The materials I use have often traveled great distances, transported by the ocean, eroded and sculpted by the elements."
More information on Treglia's work may be found in an article from the Cape Cod Times.
