Press Release - May 17th, 2006 - Artist Recruitment
The Brookline Arts Center Recruits Artists for the 32nd Annual Crafts Showcase
For 32 years, the Brookline Arts Center has hosted a Crafts Showcase. For three weeks each December, this holiday sale fills the Arts Center's Victorian building with fine crafts, gifts and art by 100 artists from around the country, with an emphasis on New England artisans. This annual fundraiser serves to support both new, young craftspeople as well as traditional artisans, by bringing their work to a new audience during the important holiday gift-buying season.
The 32nd annual Crafts Showcase is planned for November 30 to Dec. 17, 2006. A jury of artists, curators and collectors will meet to select artists in July, and new artists are being sought now by the Brookline Arts Center and the Crafts Showcase organizers.
"We love to see what is new and exciting in art and design," says artist Isabella Frost, Crafts Showcase organizer and past President of the Brookline Arts Center. "This spring are contacting art schools, crafts clubs and Internet sites, looking for unique work and new artists."
The Brookline Arts Center was founded 42 years ago, and offers affordable art classes for adults and children, along with gallery exhibitions of contemporary art, gallery talks, and special events with regional artists. In addition, the BAC provides free art classes and scholarships for low-income students. The Crafts Showcase is the BAC’s most important annual fundraiser.
To receive an application to apply for the Crafts Showcase, artists should call the BAC at 617-566-5715 or email bac@brooklineartscenter.com. For more information about the Crafts Showcase, visit http://www.brooklineartscenter.com.
The programs of the Brookline Arts Center are sponsored in part by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the Brookline Commission for the Arts and the Brookline Community Fund.
