Trunk Show of Judaica and Israeli Art in November
Benefits Art Education Programs at the Brookline Arts Center

With a 32-year history, the Crafts Showcase at the Brookline Arts Center draws large crowds each year by offering new art and novel approaches to craft in each year's show. This year, the Crafts Showcase jury was alerted to an exciting new resource by one of their most active volunteers, Ruth Feinberg of Newton. Ruth had discovered Shuki's, a store in Framingham that represented dozens of contemporary artists working in Israel.

The owners of Shuki's Judaica, Jewelry and Gifts, Kim and Shuki Ben-Israel, travel to Jerusalem twice per year to visit artists in their studios and purchase art. During the last seven years, they have developed long-term relationships with nearly 100 Israeli artists. They encourage artists to develop their work, while helping them to understand the American art market.

The Brookline Arts Center will host a Trunk Show from Shuki's at the 32nd Annual Crafts Showcase on November 29 and 30, 2006. The Trunk Show is part of the Crafts Showcase Preview Reception, where guests have a chance to purchase fine art and crafts before the art fundraiser opens to the general public. The Preview Reception will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29; it will also feature food and wine donated by local businesses and classical guitar music performed by Michael Nix on his unique 'banjar'. Tickets cost $20 in advance, $25 at the door, and all proceeds benefit the art education programs of the Brookline Arts Center.

The Shuki's Trunk Show will continue Thursday, November 30 from noon until 8 p.m., allowing visitors a chance to shop at their leisure. In addition, the Crafts Showcase is also participating in Brookline's First Light Festivities during the evening. Jazz Pianist Cydnie Breazeale-Davis will perform to entertain shoppers between 5 and 8 p.m. Admission is free on Thursday, and during regular Crafts Showcase hours.

The Brookline Arts Center is located at 86 Monmouth Street, one block from the MBTA St. Mary's Stop. For more information or to buy Preview Reception tickets, visit www.brooklineartscenter.com or call 617-566-5715. Refreshments have been donated by Choice Catering, Finale Restaurant, Johnnie's Fresh Market, Mr. Sushi, New Paris Bakery, Rani's Indian Bistro, Zaftig's Delicatessen, and the Wine Gallery. The Brookline Arts Center is funded in part by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
