Brookline Arts Center Welcomes Spring with Watercolors on a Farmers' Market Theme: Artists Jamieson and Cohen are Brookline Residents

The Brookline Arts Center will host an exhibit of watercolors by Brookline residents Anita Jamieson and Phyllis Cohen entitled "Farmers' Market: Watercolors for the Senses" from April 14 to May 26, 2006.

The public is invited to meet the artists at an artists' reception on Friday, May 12, 2006 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. The reception will be a theme party that celebrates spring crops and local markets. It is free, and open to the public.

Cohen and Jamieson have been studying watercolor painting techniques at the Brookline Arts Center since 2003, with respected BAC teacher Wendy Hoo. In course of their studies, they developed interest in each other's work. Though their approach to their subject matter is different, they like to experiment together with new painting techniques, looking for unexpected effects of color and texture.

In addition to the watercolor paintings, the exhibition will include print reproductions, notepads, aprons and canvas bags all decorated with paintings by the two artists.

"In this collection of work revolving around the subject of spring, with its fertility and first crop of early vegetables and flowers, you can watch these two artists influence each other. The exhibition grows from the artistic dialogue between two friends, who met through their art," according to Brookline Arts Center Executive Director, Susan Navarre, curator of the exhibition.

The Brookline Arts Center is located at 86 Monmouth Street, Brookline, one block from the St. Mary's stop on the MBTA Green Line. The gallery is handicapped accessible. For more information, call 617-566-5715 or visit www.brooklineartscenter.com.

Exhibition hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. The gallery will also be open during two Sunday afternoons: April 29 and May 6, from 1 to 4 p.m. The exhibition will also be on view during Brookline Artists Open Studios, on May 20 - 21, 2006.

The programs of the Brookline Arts Center are sponsored in part by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency; the Brookline Commission for the Arts; and the Brookline Community Foundation.
