During Brookline Open Studios weekend on Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21st visitors to the Brookline Arts Center will have eight exciting art events to choose from. Looking for a fun weekend activity? During this two-day celebration of contemporary art, the Brookline Arts Center provides eight activities: four art exhibitions, three artist demonstrations and a free drawing workshop.

The BAC Artists Celebrate Brookline Artists' Open Studios is free and open to the public from 11 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on May 20 and 21, 2006.For only two days, the Brookline Arts Center will display artworks in painting, drawing, ceramics, comics, sculpture and jewelry by its faculty, volunteers, board and students.

Also on view will be a special exhibition of Watercolors by the ArtReach students of Judith Bell: these students have met each week for many years at the Brookline Housing Authority and have exhibited widely throughout the town of Brookline.

In addition, Brookline sculpture collaborative Studios without Walls presents New Work 2006 at the Brookline Arts Center during Open Studios weekend. It includes all new site-specific work by Wendy Soneson Hoo, Muriel Angelil, Elizabeth Michelman, Joan Schwartz, and a life-sized installation sculpture by Barbara Vogelsang.

The sculpture show continues at the Church of Our Saviour at 25 Monmouth Street. The church will also host an Art and Spirituality Forum in conjunction with Open Studios weekend on Sunday, May 14 at 10:00 a.m. For more information, visit www.studioswithoutwalls.org.

A free drop-in drawing workshop for families will be available on Sunday afternoon from noon until 2:00 p.m. The workshop is presented by Studios without Walls, and is suitable for beginners, but will be fun for experienced artists as well.

The Arts Center Gallery is also featuring a new watercolor exhibition by Brookline residents Anita Jamieson and Phyllis Cohen entitled "Farmers' Market: Watercolors for the Senses" through May 26, 2006. Cohen and Jamieson have been studying watercolor painting techniques at the Brookline Arts Center since 2003, with respected BAC teacher Wendy Soneson Hoo.

Visitors can also learn about art that they have never seen before from BAC faculty, who will explain art techniques during drop-in artist demonstrations. For a schedule, visit the Brookline Arts Center web site at www.brooklineartscenter.com. All demonstrations are free and suitable for all ages.
