Press Release - February 21, 2006 - Songs by Harriet Goldberg
Songs by Brookline Composer Harriet Goldberg Highlighted at BAC Benefit Soirée with Singers Debra Mann and Dane Vannatter
This Spring, the Brookline Arts Center will present an evening of music and song written by the contemporary songwriter Harriet Goldberg, whose jazz songs have been recognized in the Billboard Song Contest and the USA Songwriting Competition. Gifted vocalist Debra Mann will perform, with a special guest appearance by award-winning cabaret singer Dane Vannatter.
Harriet Goldberg's music has been performed at the Regattabar, Club Café and the MAC/ASCAP Songwriters' Showcase. Her newest CD is Ocean of Dreams. Singer and pianist Debra Mann has performed as featured guest vocalist with the Boston Pops Orchestra, and at the Providence Waterfront Festival. Her voice has been praised as graceful, elegant, and a "wonderful", "rare" gift. She is also an alumna (cum laude) of Berklee College of Music. Dane Vannatter has been acclaimed by New York's Backstage as "a voice to be reckoned with: beautiful, shimmering..."
"Make a Night of It" for the Brookline Arts Center will be presented Thursday, April 27 from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the Club Longwood (formerly Veronique Restaurant) in Brookline. In the great tradition of cabaret, 150 guests will devote themselves to the pleasures of music, dining and elegant socializing, in a special evening that will benefit the scholarships and educational programs of the Brookline Arts Center. As the presenter of inexpensive art classes, educational programs and art exhibitions for 42 years, the Brookline Arts Center has introduced an enthusiastic audience of children and adults to the creative process.
"Our community is filled with creative talent, and I was thrilled to discover that Harriet Goldberg lives in Brookline. Debra Mann and Dane Vannatter have perfect rich, clear voices for the romance of Harriet's songs," according to Brookline Arts Center President Lenore Sempert. "We wanted to make the "Make a Night of It" cabaret evening the perfect place to impress your date on a romantic spring evening."
"The Arts Center is a terrific Brookline institution and wonderful place for children and adults," says BAC Board Member Chobee Hoy. "We know that the community will "come to the cabaret" in order to support the BAC and its scholarship programs."
The cabaret evening will also feature a silent auction of extraordinary gift selections, including jewelry, Red Sox tickets, artwork, a private curator's tour at the Peabody and Essex Museum, memberships from the Coolidge Corner Theater and much more.
Tickets are $100 each, with student rate tickets (with ID) available for $35. Café Veronque is located at 20 Chapel Street, in Brookline; across from the Longwood stop on the MBTA Green line. For more information, call 617-566-5715 or www.brooklineartscenter.com.
