VIRTUAL: Learn your camera’s creative modes and say “Goodbye to Auto”! (Adults)
2-day Virtual Intensive

This exciting course will help you understand and teach you 35mm photography by learning just two camera modes!  That’s right – two camera modes that will take care of 90% of your photographic subjects!  You will be taught the basic recipe known as “the photographer’s triangle” while learning your 35mm DSLR camera, your “tool” to creating and capturing your art with hands-on instruction.  Our goal is to get off the “auto everything” settings and learn to gain creative control of our camera.  This course is designed to help you improve your photography and become a skilled artist by learning the “art and science” of 35mm photography and also boost your confidence.

Students are required to have a 35mm digital camera with the following camera modes: Tv or S and Av or A.

Ceramics is a fun art form to learn and provides many avenues for exploration and creative expression. It takes time to learn different hand-building and throwing techniques. Much like an instrument, the more time you spend with a material, the better you become. It is a material that takes practice and lends itself to experimentation. Bring the studio into your home and we will need to transform a lump of clay into a finished piece of pottery!

Enameling is the process of fusing glass onto metal. Enamels come in a rainbow of colors, as well as small glass flower chips and decal sheets. Students are introduced to the principles of metal preparations, enamel application and finishing process. All levels are welcome!

Make beautiful jewelry with instruction from a working artist. They will guide you to shape, polish, solder, pierce, etch and embellish jewelry in copper and brass. Hollow forms, stones settings, stone inlay, repousse and reticulations will also be introduced.

Join us for an immersive experience of painting and drawing. Explore both experimental techniques and art historical methods of painting and drawing, try different traditional genres and subjects like portrait, landscape, still life, and dive into abstraction too! Spark your imagination with inspiring exercises that you can add to your daily routine to sharpen your skills, cultivate creating thinking, and boost mindfulness.

This class focuses on wheel throwing and hand-building fundamentals. The teacher will provide you with step-by-step instructions and demonstrations to help you create unique clay objects. Demonstrations include cups, vases, plates, lids, throwing off the hump and more. All levels will learn about decorating techniques. Additional clay is available for purchase ($25/bag)

Draw Like a Pro (Adults)

Draw what you see and see what you draw! In this introductory-level class, students will learn the essentials of drawing technique – specifically drawing from observation and reality. Students will try their hands at classic subjects like still life and portraiture (as well as subjects of their choice!) using a variety of different tools and media. Students will study composition – that is, how a picture “speaks” to us – and explore how they can use that language themselves to communicate their own thoughts and ideas through artwork.

Ever look at a work of art and think, “What am I even looking at?” Do you love museums, but wish you could engage with artworks more deeply? This workshop series will use a combination of observation, discussion, lecture, brief readings, and no-skills-required art exercises to help participants think differently about the way that they engage with visual art. Topics will include: what do we want out of an art experience? What kind of information do we need in order to understand an artwork? How does an image “speak” to us, and how can we better listen? And most importantly: could my six-year-old really make that?
