This summer we will be offering a variety of classes that offer teens the opportunity to explore artistic mediums of their choosing in both a focused and fun environment. Classes encourage individual artistic exploration as well as introduce and develop techniques and skills for each medium. Each class is led by a professional working artist in their field.

Exploring Glass: Installation Art (ages 12-17)

Description: Join artist Siena Hancock in exploring glass as a material for installation artworks. Students will work together with the instructor to design and complete two installation works to be installed on the BAC campus. This course will utilize cut, fused, and mosaic glass techniques in addition to the basics of designing and fabricating artworks for public spaces. Students will also have the opportunity to visit “DeGlassification”, Hancock’s two-person show with collaborator Lindsy Marshall, at BAC’s Beacon St Gallery.

Learn from the pros! In this course, students will be introduced to noteworthy and local Boston photographers such as Laurie Simmons, Cindy Sherman, Carrie Mae Weems, and David Hockney, to name a few. During this three-week intensive class, students will develop their own unique photographic style and will walk away from this three-day extensive class with a portfolio of images they are proud of. Students will learn introductory camera techniques and will discuss what makes a good photograph. On the last day of class, each student will be invited to print their favorite photographs to exhibit in a mini gallery show with their classmates. All levels are welcome. Students will need either a DSLR, point, and shoot, or a smartphone camera for the class. Enjoy the art of printmaking! This class is open to all levels from beginners to experts. In this one-day intensive workshop, students will learn the art of printmaking through the use of speedy cut stamps, the art of Suminagashi Japanese marbling, and the art of print from found objects. Through the use of repetition and pattern making, students will learn a wide array of printmaking techniques and will explore how to make work in multiples.

Summertime Art: Sun Prints Workshop

Summer is the best season to create artwork outside. Sun Prints, also known as cyanotypes, are created with two summertime elements – the sun and water! Learn how to make sun prints with ready-made paper as well as learn how to make your own sun print paper. Using items found in nature (leaves, flowers, ferns) and stencils, we will create beautiful blue and white sun print photograms.
