Our Summer Intensives offer students the opportunity to explore artistic mediums of their choosing in both a focused and fun environment. Classes encourage individual artistic exploration as well as introduce and develop techniques and skills for each medium. Each intensive is lead by a professional working artist in their field.

POTTERY & WHEELTHROWING INTENSIVE
July 6-9 or August 16-20, 1:00-5:00pm

Ages: 10-12

Class Fee: $320, Materials: $35 (July 6-9 is 4-day week at reduced price of $256)

This hands-on pottery program will introduce students to wheel throwing and hand building fundamentals. Explore your creativity while learning various techniques for creating your own mugs, bowls, and other unique pieces!

In the event of a change to a virtual program, clay and other hand-building tools will be provided to continue the intensive. Students will learn fundamental hand-building techniques, such as pinching and coil building, to create imaginative sculptural works of art. A contactless drop-off schedule will be provided to kiln fire the work and instruction will continue via Zoom.

MAKING COMICS WORKSHOP

Holy creative outlet, Batman! This weeklong intensive walks students through the process of brainstorming, developing, and creating their own unique comics stories. We’ll cover topics like character design, facial expressions, and story strategy, developing our skills through fun, no-experience-necessary exercises. Each student will end the week with a fully-executed graphic story to share with their friends and family – or launch their comics career!

Dive into the medium of acrylic paint with us! We’ll explore color mixing, brushes, painting methods and more. Our subjects will include people, places, animals, and things! Learn how to use color and texture of paint to bring your ideas to life, and share your work with other young artists.

This week caters to students with stories to tell! Each day of this weeklong intensive will focus on a different kind of visual storytelling. From flip books to zines, children’s books to professional-style storyboards for comics or animation, this week is all about making stories we can see.

Explore the traditional and experimental sides of drawing in this class! We will focus on both expressive and traditional ways of drawing. Try drawing with your non-dominant hand, create a character of your own, learn drawing recipes, draw a feeling, and more fun, creative assignments to stretch your creativity and get you drawing!

Draw like a Pro will provide young artists a class in which to build their drawing skills and discover new ways of expression through drawing. Polish your skills with drawing exercises focusing on the human face and figure, try using a drawing material or tool you have never used before, draw from both memory and observation, and more. Share your work with other young artists!

During this week-long course we will be exploring the world of printmaking! We’ll use a variety of techniques and materials to create our own series of illustrations. We will discuss traditional printmaking techniques as well as experimental techniques, investigating the ways in which we can create colorful, complex works of art. Some techniques we will explore include stamp making, paper marbling, nature prints, and more!

2-DAY INTENSIVE: BIG IDEAS, TINY BOOKS
August 30 & 31, 1:00-5:00pm

In this two-day intensive, students will get an introduction to the world of tiny publications: from mini-comics to zines to tiny art books. Students will choose a topic and produce their own mini-publication on the topic of their choice. Whether your student is a comics-maker, a dedicated anime fan, a budding novelist, or an expert on their own imagination, they’ll learn how a small book can fit some very big ideas.
