  • Introduction to Handbuilding Forms

    Ages 18+

    Description This class focuses on developing handbuilding and surface design techniques. Through a series of in-class exercises and projects, students will learn relief carving, coil building, advanced underglaze application methods, and more.   • Thinking In Ink

    Ages 18+

    Description This course will introduce students to the wonderful world of ink, one of the world's most ancient art media! Whether you draw, paint, sculpt, print, or snap photos, inkwork can help you establish the foundations of composition, light/dark balance, and 2D design. We will experiment with a range of ink tools, including standard pens, dip pens, Japanese ink brushes, ink washes, and our own experimental drawing tools. Through the medium of ink, we will explore composition, markmaking, and strategies for creating depth, unity, harmony, texture, shadow, and contrast in our drawings and paintings. Students will leave this class not only with skills in the medium of ink, but with confidence in their ability to design beautiful, effective two-dimensional pictures.

    Description: This is a drawing and painting class for beginners! We will examine drawing skills such as perspective, value, and light logic. We will explore observational drawing and painting and cover a variety of subjects such as landscape, still life, and portraiture. In this class students will learn how to handle charcoal, pencils, acrylic and watercolors. How can we as artists manipulate our materials to communicate through visual language?

    Description Make beautiful jewelry with instruction from a working artist. They will guide you to shape, polish, solder, pierce, etch and embellish jewelry in copper and brass.     Description How does a picture communicate an idea? A feeling? A movement? A joke? Students in this class will dive deep into the language of drawing, and how to use that language to get their idea across. Pulling content from academic drawing, children's book design, graphic design, graphic novels, advertising, and more, students will be encouraged to experiment, play, and explore - while also developing their own unique "voice" in the language of illustration.

    Description Draw what you see and see what you draw! In this introductory-level class, students will learn the essentials of drawing technique – specifically drawing from observation and reality. Students will try their hands at classic subjects like still life and portraiture (as well as subjects of their choice!) using a variety of different tools and media. Students will study composition – that is, how a picture β€œspeaks” to us – and explore how they can use that language themselves to communicate their own thoughts and ideas through artwork.

    Description Curious about figurative art? Do you like drawing people, but just can’t seem to get the proportions right? Trouble with hands and feet? OR maybe you love drawing the figure but want to draw more and experiment with media and technique? Working from a live model, the instructor will help students expand their ability to draw the figure and discover new ways to approach art making. Experiment with drawing and painting materials and expand your range using the figure as inspiration to make new art. Beginners through advanced students will benefit from our creative and technical exercises in class, designed to enhance your knowledge and build your skills from any level of experience.

  • Scheming with Color

    Description This class will give a foundation of color theory through painting and printmaking practices. We will be using acrylics, watercolor, and monoprinting to explore our understanding of the way color works. You will learn various techniques to handle each medium while understanding the complexities of color, how your eyes perceive color and why it’s important in your art. Together we will investigate what can be an intimidating part of art making. This class is open to all levels, no experience required.

  • Pottery & Wheelthrowing (Adv)

    Description Already comfortable using a pottery wheel and looking for new techniques and challenges? Expand on your skills and further explore the technical side of ceramics in this new offering. Students will be introduced to more complex forms and finishing techniques by a master ceramicist and studio potter, Moon RodrΓ­guez-Diestler. This class requires previous knowledge of wheelthrowing, and will include critiques to assist in furthering the students personal style. Additional clay is available for purchase ($25/bag).
